The survivors of October 8th 2005 had no place or shelter
to live. Initially they were provided with tents but in most
of the cases those were not equipped to cater for severe weather
conditions of the area. The rehabilitation of livelihood in
all areas is dependent upon shelter provision, Society for Skill
Trainings & Development Organization initially provided
one time corrugated iron (CGI) sheets to 500 families of six
far-off villages of Tehsil Balakot including Kawai, Fareedabad
and Jeraid.
Society for Skill Trainings & Development Organization
at present is providing long-term equipment support to the different
villages in the construction of their shelters. All these equipments
and machinery is required in construction including saw machine
and planners, required to make planks. SOCIETY FOR Society for
Skill Trainings & Development Organization has provided
KUMI (union council Showal Mazullah) village with such equipment,
however the running cost and maintenance is catered by collective
effort of the community. The people take their wood to the machine
and pay for diesel cost of the generator only and thus used
their hard saved money in making their own shelter.
The SSTD evaluation teams visited affectees from door to door
in presence of local government representatives and distributed
10 CGI sheets (10 x 2.5 ft) per family among the deserving population.
Society for Skill Trainings & Development Organization
is planning to construct one room pre-fabricated rooms for those
families who have lost both parents and widows with minor children
who have lost husbands in last earthquake.
Society for Skill Trainings & Development Organization
looks forward to donor support in this particular case. The
